Ethan Moriarty has always had a fascination with severe weather but it all came to a head on June 1st, 2011 when he witnessed an EF3 tornado rip through the heart of his hometown of West Springfield, Massachusetts. Growing up outside of traditional tornado country lent its challenges, but did not deter Ethan from pursuing agitated skies.

He began storm chasing in 2016, starting off in his tricky native Northeastern United States before graduating to the Great Plains in subsequent years. Through chasing in the Northeastern United States, Ethan learned how to make the most out of difficult chasing terrain and forecasts, becoming a reliable source for information and footage for local news markets and NWS offices in the region.

In 2018, Ethan created June First Severe Weather Research with the goal of better understanding severe weather through engineering methods. Since then through June First, he’s completed multiple engineering-based research projects studying supercell thunderstorms, analyzed tornado damage through engineering methods, and built a successful YouTube channel focused on severe weather with focuses in documentaries, engineering, and chasing. Ethan holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering (B.S.) from Quinnipiac University and currently runs June First LLC on a full-time basis.
