Hunter is a devoted husband, father, and avid storm chaser. He has been chasing storms since 2009 when he saw his first tornado in Iowa. As of 2025 he has seen nearly 200 tornadoes and 1 hurricane. His passion lead him to obtain a bachelor's degree in meteorology from Iowa State University. In partnership with Dr. Cameron Nixon, Hunter wrote his undergraduate thesis on their research investigating supercell mesocyclone longevity. Hunter has been an active member of both the Central Iowa NWA and an AMS member since 2020.
His storm photography has won awards at the National Storm Chaser Summit, Central Iowa NWA 2025 Conference, and a finalist in The Stormies in 2023. He is currently employed as a meteorologist for a private company called WeatherGuidance, based out of Texas. Hunter's hope is to educate people on the meteorology behind the storms to encourage others to safely chase and appreciate nature and to protect life and property.
