Stephen Cross is a senior in high school and based out of Dallas, Texas. Stephen has a growing YouTube channel where he documents his most notable and intense experiences with weather. His passion for severe weather dates back to 2015. During his first week living in Missouri, a strong tornado tracked directly toward his apartment complex. The pressure change in his ears, the sudden shift in temperature, and the swirling mesocyclone passing overhead after the tornado lifted just before impact sparked a fascination that never faded.

Throughout his life, storm chasing had always appealed to him. Whenever storms rolled in, he could be found outside on his bike, searching for the best vantage point and trying to understand how storms behaved. Still, the idea of truly chasing storms felt out of reach—something he never expected to fully commit to. That changed in 2023. After moving to Texas and finally getting behind the wheel, Stephen began chasing garden-variety thunderstorms close to home, focusing primarily on photographing lightning.
By 2024, he stepped into serious storm chasing for the first time and soon found himself observing multiple violent tornadoes that season—a life-changing experience. The complexity and randomness of storms continue to draw him in deeper. Stephen shares, “Just when we think we understand everything, some extraordinary event humbles us all and reshapes everything we thought we knew. There is so much real estate in this space, an infinite quantity of mystery to dive into. I’m drawn to the puzzle that is forecasting, the puzzle that once you complete, puts you in a random field in the middle of the country next to nature’s most violent display.”
Beyond meteorology, Stephen has always been a storyteller. Even outside the realm of weather, he takes joy in documenting the extreme—capturing moments and experiences that few others ever get to see.
